This weekend I’m heading to my first ever blogging conference – Blog On MSI up in Manchester. As part of the experience there’s a little icebreaker tag to get to know everyone before we meet in person, so I thought I’d join in.
Whether we’ll see each other at the conference or not, here’s a little bit more about me.
Describe yourself in three words
Happy, magpie, (sometimes) quiet.
How long have you been blogging and what made you start?
I’ve been blogging here for a few years now, but looking back it started a long time ago with diary entries on LiveJournal and personal sites hosted by friends. Blogging in a general sense is something I’ve been doing since I was in my teens I guess!
I was inspired to start this blog after Oscar was born to document our days and as a creative outlet for things I enjoy, like writing, photography and marketing.
What was the inspiration behind your blog name?
It’s been through a couple of name changes along the way, but I settled on Nicola Says because it’s simple and means that I’m not too stuck if I wanted to share more of my interests or work.
What is the best thing to come from your blog so far?
The best thing has been the people I’ve met through it. I’ve found an amazing, wonderful supportive group of friends from a Twitter chat, and spoken to many others in Facebook groups or through comments on each others’ blogs. The community’s the best part, followed by the experiences – like a weekend away or being invited to video an event, which was outside my comfort zone but so much fun.
Your most remembered thing from your childhood
Oh this is so tough, I have a terrible memory. I’d say one of my favourite childhood memories is visiting Stratford Park in Stroud and feeding the ducks with my dad and sisters. We’ve been back once with Oscar and I’d love to take Ottilie there too.
Something interesting you might not know about me is . . .
I used to be terribly, terribly quiet and shy. I’m still not the loudest person but I’m much better, although if I come out with something weird because I’m nervous then I’m sorry…
Which social media platform best describes your personality and why?
Instagram! I love looking at beautiful photos, interesting places and gorgeously-designed interiors, objects and scenes. It’s my favourite social media platform at the moment – you can find me at @nicolasays.
What is your happy song?
I don’t think I have one! That’s bad isn’t it?! I don’t listen to a lot of music at the moment, other than nursery rhymes as background noise…
What is your favourite alcoholic drink
A mojito, definitely.
What is your favourite cake?
Do doughnuts count? If not I love a good birthday cake – vanilla sponge, buttercream and icing. I could live without the jam though.
What is your favourite takeaway dish?
I’m a super boring eater (sorry!) so I usually order chicken balls to share plus some plain noodles. Yum.
Where is your dream holiday destination and why?
I’d love to take the kids to Disney World in Florida because that’s the dream. Iceland looks beautiful too.
What would your superhero name be?
Maybe something like ‘Miss Fixypants’ as I seem to spend a lot of time troubleshooting techy or bloggy things for friends or at work. It could also be ‘Super Useless’ as evidently thinking up superhero names isn’t my thing!
If you had a magical power, would you want to have and why?
It’d be amazing to be able to magic up endless supplies of money… but the first thing that popped into my mind was to be able to cheer people up. Because sometimes that’s all you need.
What one weapon would help you survive a zombie apocalypse?
I’d like to think I’d be okay with a fancy gun or something, but I just know I’d end up one of the first ones to go. I’m not fast, not slim and not skilled when it comes to anything physical.
If you could send something into space, what would it be?
A video camera!
What would you have on your gravestone?
Oh this is a bit morbid, haha. It’d have to be something about being a mother as that’s my biggest achievement (so far).
You make headline news around the world in 2 years time… but for what reason?
Oh please no. Hopefully it’s because I’ve built a successful business and done something lovely because of it.
If an EMP wiped out all mechanical forms of transport, how would you get to BlogOn?
With great difficulty. Does anyone have a hot air balloon lying around?!
