This month has been such an exciting one, and brought a big new change for our family: we’re moving house!
We’re very lucky to already live somewhere that’s quiet and it’s been a good home to us for a few years. It was our first family home together, the place we brought Ottilie back from the hospital to, and been the place we’ve made lots of memories with the kids. For all these things I’ve loved it, but it has had a few downsides too.
Where we live now it’s a bit of a mission to go out anywhere if you don’t drive (like me!). The bus service is intermittent and doesn’t run early or late enough for work, and it’s always a bit hit-and-miss whether you’ll make it on with two kids and a pushchair. There’s also nothing nearby for the kids – no open spaces, no parks, no playgrounds. It means we spend a lot of time indoors – or in the car driving to somewhere.
Our new place is completely different. For starters it’s a house instead of a flat, and let me tell you I am SO EXCITED to have a garden. It may be small, it may need a lot of work, but having that outside space is a dream. There are places we can walk to. Green spaces, fields, pathways. It’s also a lot more practical for travelling to work and I’ll be able to get out and about more easily. Moving house means plans to take my driving test and buy a car are on the back-burner for now, but I don’t mind.
I’m so excited about our move and can’t wait to make our new place a home. The whole house needs some TLC, a lot of white paint, and we have all the fun things like laying flooring and moving everything in. I say ‘we’, my job during the move is Chief Kid Wrangler. This means it might get a little quiet here in December, but I’ll be sharing how the move goes and you can expect some more home/interiors posts in the future which I’m also excited about.
Can you tell I’m excited?! I can’t even think of words.
If you have ANY advice, tips or lessons learned on moving house I would absolutely love to hear them so leave me a comment below.
I’ll be back later this week with my Christmas gift guides, so if you want to hear when they go live make sure you sign up here and I’ll send you the link!
