10 Business Tasks to Outsource

Jun. 23, 2019 / Business

Collaborative content

Outsourcing involves delegating tasks to other companies. It can help save you time and – compared to hiring employees – it can also save you a lot of money. Nowadays, you can pretty much outsource any task. Here are just ten common tasks that your company may benefit from outsourcing.

Handling your taxes

Having to record payments and calculate taxes can be arduous work. For this reason, many business owners choose to outsource an accountant to take on this role. Not only could this save you time, but it could ensure that your taxes are filed accurately. It’s possible to hire a freelance accountant or to go through a firm. Some accountants may specialise in certain trades such as retail or property and could be worth considering if you’re in this trade.

Managing your employee payroll

Making sure that employees are paid the right amount on time is an important task. Like accounting, this can be time-consuming work. Consequently, this is a task that many business owners also outsource. A good payroll management company will ensure that everyone is paid accurately in a timely manner. Some accountants may also be able to carry out this task.

Managing suppliers

If your company uses lots of suppliers, you may also find that managing supplier bills and ordering stock is a chore. Fortunately, this is a job that can also be outsourced – supply chain management companies can help to manage all your bills. Meanwhile, you can hire companies to place stock orders through for you.

Recruiting new employees

Finding the right talent when hiring new staff can be difficult. Outsourcing a recruitment company could help you to attract the applicants you’re looking for so that you don’t have to waste time trawling through unfitting applications or conducting interviews with unsuitable candidates. There are specialist recruitment agencies catered to certain trades like construction, IT and medicine. Try to hire a company that knows you trade and the type of talent you need.

Marketing your business

Marketing is essential for attracting new customers. Whilst this is a job that can be DIYed, it can be time-consuming and getting results is not easy. Outsourcing a marketing company could help to get the advertising you need. There are digital marketing companies that can handle everything from social media to SEO, and there are events marketing companies that can help to organise conferences or put together trade fair displays. You may even be able to find marketing companies that specialise in your trade.

Answering the phone

Answering the phone many be a simple task but it can be a huge interruption for businesses. There may also be times when everyone is out of the office and no-one can answer the phone. For this reason, it can be worth outsourcing a phone answering company to take incoming calls. Such companies use professional telephone staff that are able to answer general enquiries and filter out spam calls. Only the most urgent calls will be relayed to you. Some companies operate 24 hours, allowing customers to constantly have someone to talk to if they need it.

Cleaning your office

A lot of companies also outsource cleaners. Keeping one’s work premises clean is important in order to stay presentable and in order to keep it a healthy environment – however cleaning can be time-consuming and tedious work. By hiring professional cleaners, you and your employees don’t have to take time out of the day to keep the workspace clean. You can hire cleaners to come in whilst you are there for security purposes, or you can give them keys so that they can clean whilst you are not there so that both you and the cleaners can not be disturbed.

Printing and posting mail

Need to print out physical newsletters to mail to your clients? Printing, packaging and posting these newsletters can be a long task. As a result, some companies choose to outsource this task. Outsourcing printing could prevent the need for you to own a printer and it could allow you to keep your office a paper-free zone. You can still write out the newsletter you want to send – you can then simply email it over to the printing and postage company along with details of your mailing list, so that they can do the rest for you.

Collecting mail

It’s also possible to outsource a company to collect your mail. These companies can then email you digital copies or forward the mail to you. This may sound odd, but it can be useful if you’re trying to maintain a paperless work environment. It could also be useful if you work from home and don’t want to give out your personal address to clients – by outsourcing a company to collect your mail, you can use their address instead. Many of these virtual mailbox companies have central city locations and being able to use their address could even make clients think that your company is bigger than it really is.

Managing your IT

When IT fails, it can cause massive issues for businesses. Calling out an IT technician may take too much time. Meanwhile, there may not be enough IT-related tasks to a hire an in-house staff member for the role. As a result, it makes sense to outsource this role. An IT support company will be able to respond quickly to faults – you can even grant access for them to enter your computer remotely and help fix the problem. Some of these companies can also provide secure cloud services allowing you to back up all data.
