Giving to charity is one of the most generous, rewarding things that we can do. Whether you are helping people close to home or further afield, there are many different ways to show your support for people in need around the world.
However, being charitable doesn’t have to be a solo endeavour. Teaching the kids to get involved with charities is a great way to have some fun as a family while supporting a good cause – what could be better?
Why is it Important to Teach Children About Charity?
The younger a child is when they are introduced to philanthropy, the more likely it is to become an integral part of their life. If we teach our little ones about the importance of giving and being generous, they are far more likely to continue their own acts of charity as they grow older. In turn, this can help to create a better world as well as ensuring your children grow up to become considerate, conscientious members of society.
So, how can you get the little ones involved with charities? Here are some top tips for fun ways to get the whole family involved in supporting good causes.
Pick a Cause to Support
Before you get into any fundraising activities, you first need to pick a charity or organisation to support. It’s often a good idea to pick one that you can personally relate to, as this is likely to provide an extra boost of motivation. You could also get the kids to pick a charity to support – you might just find yourself surprised by their choice! So, now that you have picked the organisation that you want to support, the next step is to start planning what you will do to help them! Here are some fun activities that the whole family can get involved in.
Declutter and Donate
Is your home looking a little cramped? This could be a sign that it’s time to declutter and have a spring clean! Whether it’s clothes, toys or general bric-a-brac, spend a day working through the whole house and packaging up everything you no longer want or need. It’s a great way to create a clearer living environment while also donating everything to a good cause – a win-win situation!

Get Crafty
If you’re more of a creative family, why not take the opportunity to do what you do best and get crafty for charity? Whether it’s a bake sale or crafting beautiful handmade cards or gifts, you can all get involved and do your bit to support your chosen cause.
Volunteering
If you’d rather get out there and actively do your bit to help, there are many different ways in which you can volunteer your time for a good cause. Whether it’s helping the environment by planting trees or picking litter, helping out at a local food bank or homeless shelter or even just spending time visiting an elderly neighbour, there is bound to be something that you can do to benefit the people in your local community.
Of course, there are plenty of ways in which you can go about getting more involved with charities. In fact, the more creative, the better! However you choose to show your support, the most important thing is that you continue to do so. So, have fun, get creative and start planning your next family fundraising adventure today!
