Ever since we moved house I’ve been wanting to re-do our bathroom. It’s a small space but works well for us (although I do wish we had two!) and it’s definitely a work in progress. At the moment we’ve repainted the walls and woodwork, redone the silicone edging and adding an under-sink storage cupboard but I’d love to transform the room further.
One look I’ve been thinking about is monochrome. I love the simplicity – the clean edges, the bright white set against smooth, dark black. It feels modern and comfortable at the same time and I think it could really transform a space quite dramatically – or subtly if that’s more your style.
On my search for some inspiration I headed to my favourite place for interiors – Instagram! I thought I’d share with you some of the images that have inspired me to consider creating a monochrome bathroom at home and why I love them.
Monochrome warmth
Something that I love about this bathroom is that while it doesn’t feature many colours at all it still feels warm and cosy, thanks to the soft textiles, greys and plants. If you’re thinking about going monochrome but don’t want the space to feel bleak this is a great way of incorporating a bit of cosyness.
Black accessories
Wow, I love the black plumbing and accessories in this bathroom! It really makes the shower a feature of the bathroom. This space feels really modern and bold yet understated, and again I love that they’ve brought in some plants and greenery to make the room feel warmer and more lived-in. If you want to add in darker accessories but don’t want to touch the plumbing, how about starting small with bathroom accessories instead?
Beautiful tiling
How gorgeous is this flooring?! We can’t replace the flooring in our bathroom as it’s a rental, but if we could I know I’d have my eye on something like this. Using greys can be a softer alternative to monochrome and make a space feel warmer. In a small bathroom like this it’s all about making smart choices. Using a bright white as the main colour can make the room feel bigger, as could swapping a large bath something different – like one of these walk-in baths.
Dark and moody
I don’t know if I’d be brave enough to use so much black in our small bathroom, but this really does make for a striking space. I love the way everything seems to melt into each other – you have to look closely to define the bath tub, sink and walls from the darkness. And while it is dark it doesn’t feel cold or oppressive, thanks to the bright window frame and view beyond.
