How to Make Your Home Sparkle, Shine and Smell Amazing

Aug. 13, 2018 / Home & Interiors

Collaborative content

The trouble with housework is that it is a never-ending task. You clean your home all the way through, and within a day or two it is just as messy again. It’s great if you can afford to hire a cleaner, but very few of us are that lucky. Then you get the people that love housework, but there are very few of those as well. For most of us it is a chore we could do without and for your sanity, here are a few tips to give you a helping hand.

Lower Your Expectations

When you see pictures of pristine homes in magazines and on social media, remember they are not real life. They have been staged to look that good, and you should not expect your home to always be that immaculate. There is a difference between a dirty home and a messy home, and there will be times when you just have to accept a bit of untidiness. As long as it is clean, a few things strewn about or not put away where they should be will not matter, so do not stress out over it and make life uncomfortable for everyone else.

A Bit At A Time

There is no rule that says you must clean your whole house from top to bottom every week, months or other time. There is nothing to stop you tackling it a bot at a time, maybe one room one day and another the next. Cleaning the whole home can be exhausting, and it will drive you crazy every time someone puts something out of place.

Make The Cleaning Simple

You want your home to be as easy to clean as possible, and decluttering is just one step towards this. The more ornaments, pictures and other things that are sitting about, the harder it is to clean. In your kitchen, for instance, keep everything that is not used often in cupboards and you will find that wiping your work surfaces is a lot simpler.

Laminate flooring is much easier to clean than carpets. It generally takes a quick sweep or vacuum and a wipe over with a mop to be looking as good as new.  The beauty of it is it stays that way for longer than a carpet stays looking clean and spillages will not cause a permanent stain.

Give It A Nice Aroma

A home that smells nice feels cleaner. That is because so many of today’s cleaning products leave your home smelling fresh and we have come to associate a clean home with a nice smell.

Use air fresheners, potpourri or maybe some fresh flowers to create a good aroma in your home. Make sure you have the windows open for a while to let out any stale air and let some fresh air in.

Other Tips

There are so many things you can do to make the housework an easier job, such as putting dirty dishes in the dishwasher out of sight or when you have 5 minutes just put a few things away.  Keeping on top of it is the secret so that you do not have to panic clean or be embarrassed when unexpected visitors tell you they will be arriving in ten minutes.
