How to create a luxury bathroom for less

Desperate for a new bathroom design but worried about your budget? If things are a bit tight financially, it’s easy to think that you can’t afford the bathroom renovation that you really need.

However, there are some clever ways to bring the price of a new bathroom right down, which will allow you to have the luxury bathroom you’ve always dreamed of. If you want to redesign your bathroom in a simple and affordable way, follow these tips and you’ll soon be enjoying a luxurious new space to relax in, without the price tag.

A Lick of Paint

One way to update the feel of your bathroom without going through an expensive remodelling process is to simply give it a few layers of paint. You can dramatically change the look of a room by only focusing on the colour scheme, so consider this before you order a new suite. If your bathroom has been the same colour for years, giving it a new look will make it feel like a new room. Add some candles and a couple of wall decorations and you’ve got the bathroom you always imagined.

Get a Discount

Just like every other home furnishing, bathroom fittings go on sale at points throughout the year. Keep an eye on your preferred websites, sign up to their mailing lists, and you’ll be the first to know when there’s a sale on! You can get a real bargain when it comes to steel baths, sinks and other fittings, so be pricesmart when thinking of designing your new bathroom. After all, you might be able to afford a much higher quality bath than you would have otherwise.

Discounts also apply to decorating your bathroom. If you know what you want when it comes to decorative items, make a list that includes that current prices you can find. Check them periodically over several months and see if you can find them on sale at any point. This does require quite a bit of organisation, but having a strategy will always pay off when it comes to budgeting.

Be Willing to Compromise

If you have a completely solid idea in your head of what you want and aren’t willing to compromise, the chances are that you’ll end up paying a lot for it. If you can be flexible, and even accept that you might not have the perfect Pinterest bathroom, you’re more likely to bag yourself a bargain. For example, granite countertops are very popular for bathrooms, and as you only need a couple of them, many people think it’s worth the cost. However, if you’re willing to choose a cheaper colour – yes, different colours have different prices – or even to buy one with some slight imperfections, you’re less likely to break your budget.

Be Smart with Tiles

Tiles can really hike up the price of your bathroom, so consider being picky about where you use them. Rather than covering the whole bathroom with them, consider where you really need them. Limiting your tiles to only the areas where you really need them will help you to limit your spend, as will laying the tiles yourself. It might take a while, but it’ll work out a lot cheaper than paying a contractor to do it for you. If you have patterned tiles in mind, try to have only a few of these and mix them in with cheaper, plain coloured tiles. It can be surprising how much more expensive patterned tiles are.

Invest in Eco

If you’re upgrading your bathroom fittings, choosing low-flow toilets and water saving showers can really save you money when it comes to bills. These eco fittings cost around the same as regular ones, but they can be a long-term money-saving plan if you want to reduce your water bill while also helping the environment. Flushing the toilet is one of the biggest uses of water in residential homes, so cutting down the amount of water used could have a big impact on your monthly outgoings. You could also look to make your plumbing systems more effective with the help of Pipe Lagging and pipe insulation.

Find it Free

Whenever you’re looking to renovate a room on a budget, it’s always a good idea to see what you can find for free. Whether this involves asking around on social media, placing a request on a site like Gumtree, or finding abandoned materials on the street, you’d be surprised at how much free stuff you can get your hands on. While this may require some upcycling and a little effort on your part, it can be very rewarding and much more affordable than buying things new.
