Create a Better Connection Between You and Your Blog Readers

Oct. 27, 2020 / Business

Collaborative content

Blogging can sometimes feel like a one-way form of communication. You’re putting your posts out there, and you know that people are reading them, but it feels like you’re not getting much back.

However, blogging isn’t all about talking to yourself. You should be communicating with your audience and allowing them to participate in the conversation too.

Creating more of a connection with your readers takes work, but there are tools and techniques that you can use to form that connection. If you’re looking for ways to get closer to your audience, here’s how you can do it.

Allow Comments (and Reply to Them)

If you don’t already have comments turned on for your blog, now is the time to do it. When you allow people to comment, they can leave their thoughts and opinions on your individual posts. That might just be to say that they enjoyed what they read, or it could be a more in-depth reply to what you wrote. You can use a filter so that you have a chance to read comments and approve (or not approve) them before they are published. It will also help to prevent spam comments from being published. It’s a good idea to reply to comments too, and engage in conversation.

Add a Chat Room to Your Blog

Adding a chat room to your blog can be a good idea in some instances. It can allow people to talk about all kinds of topics and get to know both you and other readers. I’ve found there are some easy ways to add a chat room for my website so people can get talking. You can customise the chat room so that it has everything that you need. It could be an especially good idea if you have a blog that’s focused on one particular subject, whether it’s a sport, craft, or TV.

Link to Your Social Media

You can create social media pages for your blog if you haven’t done so already. It will help you to build your audience and grow a following on different platforms. When you set up social media pages, make sure you link to them from your main blog. It will show everyone where to follow you so that you’re easy to find. Remember to post regularly on social media too, keeping people up to date with your latest blog posts but also sharing other interesting things and replying to comments.

Build a Mailing List

A newsletter is another way to keep your audience in the loop. When people sign up to your mailing list, you can email them to let them know when you publish a new post. You could also have an email address that people can use to contact you or use your newsletters to let people know how they can communicate with you and other readers. Include your social media links or let them know if you have a chat room or forum.

Form a connection between you and your blog readers with some key tools that will open up communication.
