When we think of our home improvement projects, it’s usually in terms of how much better our home is going to look once they’re completed. But remember: your house isn’t just for looking at, it’s for living in! That’s why it’s always a good idea to have one eye on upping your home’s comfort levels when you’re thinking about how to improve the overall look. Do this, and you won’t have any regrets when the renovations have been completed.
Set the tone
You’ve got a lot of freedom when it comes to upgrading your hallway. This is because you can focus on making it look inviting and warm, without much thought to functionality. After all, how much time do people spend in their hallways? As such, the emphasis will be on making the space not comfortable, necessarily, but inviting. Remember: the hallway is getting to set the tone for the rest of the home, and while it’s rarely at the top of priorities for home renovators, it’s worth of your attention. Make things light, incorporating as much natural light as possible, and avoid any clutter.
Look at the flooring
Like the hallway, you might think that flooring isn’t overly important to the look and feel of a home, but how wrong that is! After all, it is everywhere, and we do walk on it all day and night. In this regard, it’s one of the most important aspects of the home! The key is to install flooring that both looks good and is comfortable. Karndean flooring, for example, is warmer underfoot than other hard flooring options and looks great. It’s also suitable for underfloor heating, too, so you have the option of making your home extra cosy.
Incorporate natural tones
You can have a home that looks impressive to the eyes, but which is utterly “cold” to be in. Some people might like this, but if you have a family, then you’ll want something a bit warmer! One of the best ways to do this is to incorporate natural tones into your living areas. That could mean opting for a vintage wood table, and covering your furniture with natural looking throws and blankets, such as those made of linen. You want to make your home look like the perfect place to spend an afternoon, whether it’s the depth of winter or in the height of summer.
Focus on the size of the room
Some spaces seem to have a natural affinity for comfort. But this isn’t really the case: it’s just that the owners had a strong sense of the size of the room, and how to use it properly. Before you make too many plans, make sure your ideas will fit into the size you’re trying to fit it all into. Focus on symmetry, a focal point, and atmospheric lighting, and you won’t go wrong.
Add the personal touch
Finally, remember to add the personal touch. There are no substitutes for photos, works of arts, and memorabilia from your travels!
