How To Make A Smart Career Change

Feb. 17, 2018 / Business

Collaborative post

There’s a lot of careers out there. In the modern era, a lot of people are known for job hopping, and we can’t really blame them when there’s so many demands of the workforce these days. So whether you’re tired of the job you’re in now, knowing it’s not going anywhere and you aren’t being challenged throughout the day, or you simply think your skills could be put to better use elsewhere (and hopefully you can find a better salary too!), there’s some smart changes to make.

Here’s some tips to make sure you’re being smart with everything you want to do in your career!

Network as Much as You Can

When it comes to getting a job, this is often considered the number one way to shoot to success. We all know the phrase, ‘It’s not what you know, it’s who you know,’ which immediately seems a little unfair. However, when you network, you’re going to find a lot more doors open to you, and a little more advice on your plate ready to be devoured.

When you’re writing a dissertation or a thesis for university, you’re going to need an expert in your field to consult, and when it comes to big careers the same principle applies. If you know where you want to move to, try and connect with the people who already work there. You can come across as smart, intuitive, and ready for responsibility: in other words, everything you need to secure a high level position!

Take Stock from Your Current Job

When you’re looking for a new job, don’t let yourself settle for similar positions or working environments in a new place that’s willing to hire you simply because they’re offering you a job. If it’s not right for you, you’re allowed to say no, no matter your situation. Moving from one bad place to another is something that’s going to make you completely disillusioned with the idea of a career.

So learn your lessons from where you work at the moment and take them to heart. Don’t make the same mistakes you did when you first signed up to be a worker, and know the questions you need answering from your new employer. You deserve a good job after all.

Know Your Skills

Don’t ever undersell yourself. This is the number one thing when it comes to writing up a CV and heading into an interview with confidence. Even if you don’t think there’s much substance to your talents, make sure you play them up and have examples ready of where you used them. What doesn’t sound impressive to us can mean the world to someone else, and you have plenty of reasons to get hired here.

Having a bad job can seriously affect how you value yourself and your skills, so make sure you’re letting yourself have a positive mindset. This is your time, and that means you spend it how you want to; there’s so many opportunities out there for you!
