Have you ever been round to one of your friends house, maybe for a gathering or a birthday party, and everyone has been commenting on how nice the house is? When that one friend in the group has the really nice modern home, it’s all everyone can seem to talk about.
For a lot of us, it takes years of planning and saving, and doing odd little bits as you go along, before you finally get a home that all of your friends are going to talk about. But when that day finally comes, it can be satisfying to have everyone talking about how much they love your home.
Here are our top ways of giving yourself a home that all your friends will be talking about, so have a read on to find out more.
Clean & Fresh
If you want to make a good impression, the best impression to make is the first one. As they say, it’s not always about looks. Sometimes, it’s the smell and feel of the home that people first take in.
You have to admit that as soon as you walk into, or walk past somewhere, that smells really good, you instantly take an attraction to it, just like you would with aftershave or perfume. Take the soap and beauty shops as an example. They have strong scents flowing through their stores, in an attempt to try and bring people in.
You need to sort of try and apply this tactic with your own home. You can get plug in air fresheners that as they heat up, dispense the freshest scents all around your home. You might get used to it after a while, so don’t worry if you walk into your own home and don’t smell it, because others most definitely will. You don’t want to make the mistake of running around the home spraying the life out of it with air freshener. That will look and smell obvious, and people might think you’re trying to cover something up. If you have a plug in air freshener dispensing it, the smell is much more natural, and you can get so many different smells to put in your home. As soon as it runs out, you just simply refill it with a new smell!
But, looks do play a big part in it, so you want to try and keep your home as neat and as clean as you possibly can. You don’t want people walking in and treading on bits in the carpet, or getting covered in dog hairs. If you can, it’s great to get into the habit of vacuuming regularly. If you know you’re having guests coming round, you could try and give everywhere a deep clean. From the kitchen floor with the mop, to the TV and coffee table with the duster. The more you clean, the better your home is going to smell. Plus, there’s nothing better than coming into a home that looks and smells clean. We think it’s just such an inviting feeling, and it definitely won’t be turning your friends away!
Bright & Inviting
Keeping your home bright is really important. If it’s the middle of summer and you’ve got all of the blinds closed, you’re using dark wallpaper and furnishing, and the home just generally feels a little dingy, it isn’t going to be a welcoming experience. However, if everywhere is bright and light, it’s going to be so much more inviting.
Focus on keeping the colours that you use for the wallpaper and furnishing as light as possible, and keeping the air flowing through the home. In the summer especially, it’s so easy for a home to become stuffy if the windows are left shut. A nice breeze coming through your home is so much more inviting.
Where possible, try and draw in as much natural light as possible as well. Keep all the curtains and blinds open during the day, and mix it with some light decor, and your home will just feel more inviting all round.
If we were talking about the bedrooms, you could get away with having the room a little more dark and subtle. Whilst it being bright and airy in the day would be nice, you want to to be as relaxing as possible come the night time.
Modern & Quirky
Sometimes, your home just needs to be a little different or unusual to get your friends talking. It needs to have something about it that your friends wouldn’t have seen before.
Now, to do this is not hard to achieve. All you need to do is focus on accessories for the quirky side, and furnishing and modern renovations for the modern side of it.
For the renovation, you need to think about the rooms that are really going to stand out and wow people, and one of the main is going to be the bathroom. Everyone loves a good bathroom, and if you can get yours to rival a 5* hotels, it’ll be a lovely experience every time you use it. You can go all out fancy in there and get bathroom mirrors with LED lights, heated toilet seats, a walk in shower… the list could go on. All you need to do is have a vision of what you think is going to look good, and contact a bathroom fitter to get the ball rolling. The kitchen is also a good opportunity for a renovation project. Everyone loves a good kitchen!
As for quirky, you need to think about ornaments and accessories that other people aren’t going to have. It could be something you find in a charity shop, at an auction etc. It’s hard sometimes to be both modern and quirky, so keeping the balance there is something to watch out for.
Garden Parties Galore
No matter what age you are, there’s nothing better than being able to get your friends together, and having one big garden party for absolutely no reason. All you need is some good weather as an excuse, and you’ll have the best time ever.
But, for you to have garden parties galore, you need to make sure your garden is up to scratch. Make sure you’re focusing on maintenance by keeping the grass nice and fresh, and planting flowers and plants that you love.
It’s always nice to have a good seating area that’s sheltered as well, for you and your friends to enjoy the outdoors in. The first idea is just simply a long table and some chairs. You can get cushioned chairs to make it that little bit better for the people coming. Or, you could go all out and get an outdoor furniture set. They might feature swinging sofas, and heavily cushioned chairs, meaning your friends will be comfy all night long. You could also decorate the back of your house with fairy lights to create an amazing, magical atmosphere.
Family Friendly
As we all get older, many of us start families of our own. Whilst we might not be able to meet up as much as we used to be able to, it’s still nice to get together when we can.
If you’re at that stage it’s worth thinking about making your home family friendly. That way, when your friends come round, people won’t have to be worried about what their kids are doing. If you already have children of your own and need some more kid-friendly space, you could change a spare room into a kids playroom. If this isn’t an option, you could just get an outdoor jungle gym set for them to play around on.
Kitted Out
A high tech home is always one to be proud of, and we know it would get your friends talking if they were to come around. There’s plenty of tech you could put in your home as well.
One of the things that might impress your friends is home automation. You could turn lights around the home off, just from one press of a button. Or you could go for something fancy, such as a big new TV. It can be a big investment but if you love watching TV or films together, or you’re a sports fan, it’s something that will quickly pay off with how many times you use it.
